Updated Prescription Policy

Important information regarding how we handle prescription requests and written prescriptions at Southtowns Animal Hospital.

To ensure the safety and well-being of your pet, we have updated our prescription policies. Please review the information below carefully before submitting a refill request.

1

Valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR)

A valid VCPR is required before any prescription can be issued or refilled. This means your pet must have been examined by one of our veterinarians within the past 12 months. Prescriptions will not be authorized for pets who are overdue for an exam.

2

72-Hour Processing Time

Please allow a minimum of 72 business hours for all prescription refill requests. This applies to both in-hospital medications and written prescriptions for use at outside pharmacies. Requests submitted on weekends or holidays will be processed the next business day.

3

Written Prescriptions for Outside Pharmacies

We are happy to provide written prescriptions for medications available at outside pharmacies. A written prescription fee may apply. Please note that we cannot guarantee pricing, availability, or the quality of medications obtained from third-party pharmacies.

4

Controlled Substances

Controlled substance prescriptions are subject to additional state and federal regulations. These medications require an up-to-date in-person exam and cannot be authorized via phone or online request. A valid photo ID may be required at pickup.

5

Online Pharmacy & Home Delivery

We partner with Vetsource for safe, convenient home delivery of many medications. Orders placed through our authorized online pharmacy are fulfilled with veterinarian-approved products. We do not authorize prescriptions for non-partnered online pharmacies.

6

Medication Changes & Dose Adjustments

Any change in medication, dosage, or treatment plan requires a veterinary consultation. Please do not adjust your pet's medication without first speaking with our team. Dose changes may require a recheck exam before a new prescription can be issued.

If you have questions about our prescription policy or need to discuss your pet's medications, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our team is always happy to help.
